The Real Benefits of Massage Therapy

Whilst massage therapy may only have come to the forefront of the modern medical world comparatively recently, it is by no means a recent invention. Hippocrates the Father of Medicine, practised something known as ” rubbing” some  four thousand years ago.

Of course modern massage can not be known now as simply “rubbing” as this would not sit so well with the Hollywood set who think nothing of having a twice weekly massage for relaxation. There are something like over 100,000 massage therapists in the United States alone. Clearly there must be something in it.

In simply medical or scientific terms it is the practice of applying pressure on the muscular structure and soft tissue of the body to bring about relaxation. It is normally applied with the hands but feet, forearms and elbows.

In a world so stressed as that in which we now live in it is perhaps not surprising that many are turning to massage therapy    for relaxation and tissue regeneration. However unlike other forms of destressing it is based in scientific fact giving both physical and spiritually benefits leading to overall well being.

The four main benefits of massage therapy are :

Relaxation – Stress relief from the office and home. The great  release from the skin of the build up of toxins and hormones especially in women can not be underestimated. The added advantage of lowering the possibility makes it a real attraction to regular massage.

Pain Relief – Regular sportsmen swear to the beneficial effects of massage in the loosening of tired muscles and the relief of cramp. A very real of benefit to those with an active lifestyle, who suffer from the after effects of a hard game.

Increased Athleticism. Tight and rickety muscles restricting your mobility can be much improved by regular massage leading to increased flexibility. Even movements that have been painful and stiff for sometime can be much improved. As a direct result blood pressure and heart rate can be lowered . The recovery rate for injuries such as strains will be boosted and the immune system correspondingly strengthened.

Improved mental agility. Seems strange but massages are terrific way to enhance your mental performance. By reducing mental stress you are able to think clearer and work more efficiently. Your mind will be completely clear and able to work on the task in hand and have a restful night’s sleep.

Go ahead  invest in regular massage therapy – both your body and your mind will thank you for it.
